Trolly Trundle

Trolly Trundle
Fully loaded trolly, home grown seedlings including lots of sunflowers

I had some seedlings to transport to the plot today so I borrowed a beach trolly thing from my parents and loaded it up for a walk to the plot. Along with Mum and two little helpers I trundled along to the allotment. We all took turns to push or pull the trolly, I had to set up timers so the smalls got to share fairly. We stopped when we were most of the way there to get ice cream.

In addition to the seedlings the trolly was also loaded with cardboard that will become future weed suppressant and some rubber edging that will be used to mark out a new bed. All of that was popped into the shed for later.

When I first arrived at the plot another newbie called me over and asked if I want any spare beefsteak tomatoes, she is going to hold me two in her greenhouse until they are ready. I gave her two of my yarrows and I think she might have some of my yellow cherry tomatoes too when they are ready. When we arrived I set the small ones on a mission to get water and give the seedlings a goad soak ready to plant them out.

I planted around 10 sugar-peas and netted them to protect them from pigeons. Then I planted a whole patch of sunflowers, three yarrows and two Brussels sprouts. The sprouts were probably a little small to plant out, but something has been eating them in the cold frame so I was only going to loose them if they stayed at home. I cut up a couple of plastic bottles to give them a temporary cloche.

There was a hose on a real in the spares pile to I brought that back to the plot and went to the shop to see about some hose connectors. The lovely lady from the allotment association kindly found a spare connector in her shed, she will accept payment in plants when I have some spare. I am finding the allotment word very friendly!

Mum sat under the plum tree and did some weeding, there was a nice cleared patch by the time she was done. The hose set up was a bit fiddly and I got a little damp. Nothing that didn't dry off quickly. My shed already needs a bit of a sort out. Maybe that's another job for next week.

Time at plot: 2.5 hrs

Mood: Concerned - how will the plant babies survive their first night away from home?? I will have to check on them tomorrow.

The plant babies were fine by the way - but I did go and check them the following day!
