It's coming to life

It's coming to life
View of most of the plot, allium bed in the foreground and compost corner in the distance.

Weeds weeds everywhere... the plot is coming to life, and I need to get on top of it before it turns into a jungle! Also coming to life are my parsnips - it is day 13 since they were sown and the first one has started to show signs of life this morning. I am super happy - my luck with parsnips has been somewhat mixed historically!

Good news - There is wood chip again. My brother has helped me get a pile ready for path renewal.

A less polished view of the plot, before the hard work started. The pile of wood chip that my brother helped retrieve.

My project for the day was to clear out a space for the squash bed, and rescue some actual plants from the big patch of weeds.

AFTER

The future squash patch minus most weeds

The pond is settling well and the things I rescued have gone into the raised bed behind it. This is what I have called my pollinator patch, but it is going to be a generally ornamental bed, the sorrel is in there at the moment along with various flowers and some wild garlic.

The pond progress (still no frogs) and the flower patch bed.

The Californian poppies have really come to life and are adding some bright colour to the bed with the onions, garlic and mangel-wurzels in.

Wonderful orange weeds - my nan still says the poppies are weeds!

I made use of the woodchip to put a good layer of mulch down the fence line. It should help as a weed suppressor keeping the fence line tidy and any weeds a little easier to manage.

Mood: Accomplished, tired and a bit allergic (my arms reacted to the comfrey, and nettles I think, but I will spare you the photos),

I came home from the plot and then the supermarket really buoyant, but it was not long before I felt really rubbish and burnt out. Perhaps the histamine reaction, perhaps the sun. Although my post allotment self had energy enough to by BBQ supplies I went for a big long afternoon nap and saved the BBQ for the following day.
