I will ache tomorrow
Mountain of weeds made in a quick 30 minute plot visit

It is still February and it is still raining.

Today I arrived at the plot with the intention of digging up the last of the potatoes, before they start sprouting and creating another generation only to find that the lock to my shed had totally seized up. Not to be deterred, and grateful for a gap in this years almost continuous rain I decided to do a bit of hand weeding.

The grumpy lock preventing shed access

I stuck at this with music in my ears for about 30 minutes, creating a nice big mound of green stuff and making noticeable progress. The soil on my plot retains a lot of water, but is not full of puddles. Despite the lack of gloves the hand weeding worked ok, even things with pretty long tap roots came out without too much effort.

Current view on the plot, still needs a lot more prep ahead of the season

The onions and garlic appear to be coming along nicely. I might need to make a frame to cover the sprouting broccoli, something is munching the new growth and if it is pigeons then I can save it. Otherwise this years plants are just going to be compost. The sprouts are still small and there are a few kalettes that might almost count as food.

Tomorrow a couple of mini-greenhouse cold frames should arrive. I hope that they will provide me with sufficient space to grow some things from seed, and to grow on some tiny plug plants. Will review the build process and the quality when they arrive, there is some self assembly needed and I will need to have a bit of a rearrange in the garden to put them somewhere practical.

Anyway that is all for now.

Mood: proud that I didn't let the lock stop me

Spent: Will cover that when I tell you about the greenhouses - there is always a chance I will send them back
