Grow, Grow, Grow

Sunday 8th
The cold frames are full again with a combination of seeds I have sown and seedlings that came in the post. The post seedlings all arrived in really good condition minus a strawberry variety that they ran out of and for some reason my Sorel seems to have turned into a lettuce.
This week has been great weather for the plot, a real soak is just what it needed. I walked down there today with my dog and my brother to give it a quick checkover and check that the wind had not caused too much chaos.
We grabbed a glass of squash from the club house and I did a whole load of weeding while my brother tried to make a support for the mystery fruit bush (maybe loganberry). Life was made easier when Dad turned up, the structure seemed to need octopus arms to hold it together until the tension and string were in place.

The doggo settled by the gate as a furry plot guard and was very well behaved. I think Dad was impressed with the plot progress. The squash plants have grown well but they are looking a little sad and droopy. My plot neighbour kindly gave me some courgettes today. She says she gives them some basic tomato food. I have done a little reading and the stinky tea I have made should work perfectly as an alternative to shop bought liquid feed. So that's a plan for next propper visit, feed the squashes.
The brassicas that I planted and netted at the plot all seem to be happy. I discovered another pest that likes brassicas this evening when the dog tried to steal a broccoli seedling from the cold frame. Fortunately I rescued the plant before it was munched.... phew.
Back a home I mowed the back and front lawns, the composter is getting pretty full now. I added some extra support to the raspberries and propped up the yarrow. The countdown it on to garden fresh raspberries, although I expect I will need to be quick to beat the birds (and the dog) to them. I caught Parker testing if the berries were ripe yesterday.

I have started to eat harvests mostly of chard, and other peoples courgettes.
Midweek - Maybe the 11th
Made a quick evening visit to the plot to give everything a really good soak and a check over. This helped me work out what jobs I have for the weekend. The sun does not seem to have bothered things too much which is good as watering was a little nt of a pain. Will have to sort out the hose so that it reliably delivers more than just a trickle. The sun has given the weeds the signal to grow, grow, grow, so the plan for the weekend is mostly dealing with weeds.
