Early Start

Early Start
A view over the plot on a bright sunny morning, a vegetable bed with sweetcorn, sunflowers and squashes, lots of brambles and the view into the neighbouring plot.

Sat 21st June
I set my alarm for my normal commute time and was at the plot before 7am. I was the first one there and had the place to myself. I set about clearing the weeds along the fence line between my plot and the communal path, which made the whole area much more presentable, and then I worked my way around the plot. I am not sure if I want to keep the fence, which was here when I arrived. It is sturdy and presentable, but provides a good home for weeds and adds additional maintanance.

first job, tend to the weeds spilling out onto the pathway

Four wheelbarrows and one cup of tea later I called time on the weeding and switched to tidying the netting around the brassicas. They were a little gappy and I think it is likely that the cabbage whites (big and small) have found their way in and laid some eggs.

The salad bed is filling up nicely. A good mix of different leaves.

I will be back tomorrow to continue the tidy-up and plant out a few bits and pieces. Mostly brassicas and companion plants.

happy looking patch of sunflowers

Oh I forgot to add that on Thursday I came to the plot and watered the veg and brought home some chard leaves and salad. I can't remember which day the doggo visited the plot but he enjoyed the cool of the gravel path after a warm walk. The chard was used in a much repeated pasta dish that I love and is based on a dish from Nigella, which you can find on her website.

delicious linguini loosely based on a nigella recipe.

What are you favourite plot to plate eats? This has to be right at the top of my list.
