Any frogs yet?
March is here and I a resisting the urge to plant all the seeds and go go go with all the growing. Despite this I am occupied with lots of allotment tasks and today my Dad and brother came with me to get a long awaited pond project underway. Yay!!

I had decided that I would turn one of the four raised beds into a pond, it is the perfect size for the pre-formed liner that Dad had, and I feel like having it raised a little may make it safer for small visitors. There is a plant too, but I can't tell you what it is as I don't know! We did the project in heavy rain, but the helpers made pretty quick work of it, before filled it with rainwater from the waterbutt, leaving the heavy rain to top it off. The ground wasn't too hard, there is a little layer of gravel that was the base for the previous owners greenhouse, and there were some tree roots, but the never-ending rain of 2026 hasn't caused things to be too sodden, sticky or heavy.

I didn't just watch the helpers! I did a little digging, and while pond installation was going on I started harvesting the last of the potatoes. There was no sign that any had started to think about growing, but I was starting to loos a few to the bugs and beasties in the ground. Not many though. I have decided that if I do spuds again I will do more Pentland Javelins, they have done well in the ground and grown some really nice sized potatoes that are pretty versatile.

I also harvested some tasty greens for my dinner this week, and it looks like I may get some sprouting broccoli soon.
Mood: Super happy - about to go down a marginal planting and wildlife cam rabbit hole.
Other Mood: Impatient, how many days (weeks, months) until frogs?
